"I want to be a force for real good. In other words. I know that there are bad forces, forces that bring suffering to others and misery to the world, but I want to be the opposite force. I want to be the force which is truly for good." - John Coltrane

about

Daniel Weiss was born and raised in Ottawa, Canada. He wanted to play drums in junior high but got his second choice of saxophone. His parents rented him an alto saxophone and when he took to it, they bought it for him. He spent the first few years trying to achieve his grades in the Royal Conservatory but this didn't speak to him. He started playing in the stage (jazz) bands at school and fell in love with the music. He loved the idea of the soloist speaking to the crowd.

Daniel has played on National and International stages including L'Escalier in Montreal, Toulouse Lautrec in London England, Museo Cafe in Funchal, Portugal, Paroquia Bar in Ponta do Sol and others. Locally, he has played at the NAC, Montgomery Scotch Lounge, Options Jazz Lounge, The After Eight Jazz Cafe, the Cock and Lion, and The Lord Elgin hotel. He has shared the stage with internationally renowned artists including prominent local Ottawa band “The Commotions”.

In 2017 Daniel sought out his true calling and purchased a Tenor Saxophone and has never looked back. He is a long time lover of John Coltrane's music and passion and searching for deeper meaning in his life through music. He is heavily influenced by tone focused players like Joshua Redman and Bob Reynolds, but also loves the OGs like John Coltrane and Sonny Stitt. He loves the organic nature of jazz and how musicians communicate call and response style on stage.
